What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.25
──> Maintenance Release
ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.25 is a maintenance release that
contains a few minor problem fixes. The most significant
problem occurred when a user with limited hard drive capacity
(usually under 37.5 megabytes) would try to decompress a file
and receive a warning that the file required more hard drive
space than they had available, even if the compressed program
was very small. For a complete list of changes, see the file
ZIPRPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.24
──> Maintenance Release
ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.24 is a maintenance release.
This version contains a fix for a problem where attempting to
execute multiple instances of the same program (on a network
or under a multitasker) could cause an intermittent problem
where the first instance would not wait for the second
instance to close before attempting to compress the selected
program.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.23
──> Maintenance Release
ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.23 is a minor maintenance
release. This version contains a fix for an obscure problem
with Internal ZIP compression. The cleanup process in the
ZIF Editor Pro has also been enhanced to be substantially
faster than before (now taking about 1-2 seconds).
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.22
──> Enhancement / Maintenance Update
ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.22 contains a significant rewrite
of the previous ZIP'R Pro code, reducing the code size by
about 20K in the EXE file and 21K in the OVR file. The new
code allows us to find and fix potential problems more
quickly, and leaves room for future program enhancements.
Due to the rewrite, we found and fixed several problems with
Internal ZIP compression when the compressed file was located
in a different directory than the program's main directory.
For a complete list of revisions, see the files ZIPRPRO.REV
and ZIFPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.21
──> Enhancement / Maintenance Update
Version 2.21 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS contains several
enhancements (and a few problem fixes). A problem was fixed
where ZIP'R Pro did not always prompt the user to insert a
diskette in the disk drive before starting the compression
process. This could have resulted in an "Unknown (or
Page 1
Unhandled) Error" if the user did not have a disk in the
drive. Another minor problem was fixed regarding the PKZIP
Advanced Troubleshooting options. Although these options
were being passed on the PKZIP command line, they were not
being passed on the PKUNZIP command line. (To use these
options on an existing ZPD file (created with an older
version of ZIP'R Pro), simply resave the ZPD file with the
ZIF Editor.) Several improvements were added to the ZIF
Editor Pro, such as hot-key assignments, and a reduction in
the EXE size.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.20
──> Maintenance Update
Version 2.20 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS fixes an obscure problem
with internal ZIP compression where the compressed file would
be created in the wrong location if the compressed file
directory was different than the program (parent) directory.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.19
──> Maintenance Update
Version 2.19 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS fixes a problem with
internal ZIP compression where the error "Could not erase the
file nnn.ZIP" would occur after compressing a program. For
more information, see the file ZIPRPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.18
──> Maintenance Update
Version 2.18 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS is a maintenance release.
Many cosmetic issues have been addressed. Arrow keys can now
be used on the ZIP'R Pro button menu. The ZIF Editor Pro has
been improved using our most current internal libraries. For
a complete list of changes, see the files ZIPRPRO.REV and
ZIFPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.17
──> Maintenance Update
Version 2.17 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS is a maintenance release.
A significant problem was fixed with Internal ZIP
compression. When attempting to decompress the ZIP file, an
error #5, "file access denied" would occur. A full
explanation of this problem and its source can be found in
the file ZIPRPRO.REV. A couple of obscure problems were
found and addressed, including a Windows-NT "file access
denied" bug.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.16
──> Maintenance Update
Page 2
Version 2.16 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS is a maintenance release.
A significant problem was fixed where the screen would be
filled with garbage characters immediately after trying to
execute ZIP'R Pro. This behavior occurred if the Video
Display was set to Direct screen writes or Auto Detect with
an EGA or VGA monitor (and only if the prelog screen was
supposed to be displayed). The direct screen writing was
being done from an overlaid unit, which called an assembly
language OBJ file, thus causing corruption on the screen.
This screen writing procedure has been moved into a non-
overlaid unit.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.15
──> Maintenance Update
Version 2.15 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS is a maintenance release.
The file ERRORS.OPL has been removed. All error messages are
now contained in the EXE file. ZIP'R Pro has been overlaid,
hence the addition of the file ZIPRPRO.OVR. This was done to
reduce the memory requirements needed to perform operations,
especially internal ZIP compression and decompression.
Previously, users with memory limited systems (less than 512K
free before ZIP'R Pro was launched) who chose to use internal
ZIP compression would experience an error #8 (insufficient
memory) when compressing programs. Now, users with as
little as 465K free (before ZIP'R Pro is launched) can use
internal ZIP compression.
IMPORTANT: Although ZIP'R Pro only requires 465K of free
conventional memory, you must have at least enough
conventional memory to execute the program that is being
launched through ZIP'R Pro. For example, if your program
requires 540K of free conventional memory, you must have
at least 550K of free memory before launching ZIP'R Pro.
(ZIP'R Pro's overhead, along with the secondary command
processor consume about 10K of memory.) On the other
hand, if your program only requires 400K of free
conventional memory, you must have at least 465K of free
memory, since this is the amount required by ZIP'R Pro,
in order to operate properly.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.14
──> Maintenance Update
Version 2.14 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS is a maintenance release.
A significant problem has been fixed concerning ZIP'R Pro's
overhead when launching programs. Some programs may have
reported "Out of memory" errors due to this problem. For a
detailed explanation, see the file ZIPRPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.13
──> Maintenance Update
Version 2.13 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS is a maintenance release.
The monochrome display for the ZIF Editor has received a
face-lift, and code has been modified with the latest changes
in our internal STSI libraries. Best of all, STSI is now an
Page 3
author member of the Association of Shareware Professionals!
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.12
──> Maintenance Update
Version 2.12 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS is a maintenance release.
ZIP'R Pro now complies with ASP standards. A complete list
of changes can be found in the files ZIPRPRO.REV and
ZIFPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.11
──> Maintenance Update
Version 2.11 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS is a maintenance release.
Code was re-arranged and combined to make it easier to update
and understand. Potential problems were also addressed. A
completed list of changes can be found in the file
ZIPRPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.10
──> New Button Style Interface!
Version 2.10 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS adds a new button style
interface, so when users type "ZIPRPRO.EXE" without any
passed parameters, ZIP'R Pro will display a button interface
with a complete collection of buttons representing the files
found in the \ZIPRPRO sub-directory. There will be 1 button
for each program found (with a current limit of 54 buttons).
Simply use the mouse to left-click on a button to execute the
corresponding program, or right-click on the same button to
edit the file with the ZIF Editor.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.03
──> Maintenance Release!
Version 2.03 of ZIP'R Pro For DOS contains a major problem
fix for internal ZIP compression. When attempting to
recompress a program using the Update option, users would
receive an Error Number 5, (File Access Denied). The
compressed file had been marked as read-only, and therefore
could not be initialized for any other action. This error
condition did not appear when using a Novell network, so
internal beta-testing efforts did not catch the problem.
Added code to make sure the compressed file's attributes were
properly set before any action to the file is attempted.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.02
──> Enhanced Trapping For Decompression Errors
ZIP'R Pro now allows the ability to recover from "overwrite"
error messages generated by PKZIP and ARJ. Previous versions
of ZIP'R Pro would terminate execution if any error was
Page 4
detected. Now, ZIP'R Pro will detect if the error was
generated by an overwrite warning, and will offer the user
the ability to continue program execution. For more
information, see the file ZIPRPRO.REV or the troubleshooting
section of the ZIPRPRO.DOC documentation file.
──> Maintenance Release!
Version 2.02 contains a fix for a problem created in version
2.00. When an error occurred during the decompression
process, ZIP'R Pro would terminate program execution without
displaying the corresponding error message. Further problems
have also been reported that InocuLAN has now detected the
same virus (see v2.01 revision) now located in ZIFPRO.EXE.
While we still believe this to be a false-positive, we are
releasing ZIP'R Pro will all files in uncompressed format.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.01
──> Maintenance Release!
Version 2.01 of ZIP'R Pro contains an updated INSTALL.EXE
file. One of our users reported that InocuLAN (by Cheyenne
Software) was reporting an occurrence of the Tony-H virus in
the INSTALL.EXE file. We believe this was a false-positive
report, and not cause for alarm. However, we are releasing
ZIP'R Pro 2.01 with the INSTALL.EXE file in uncompressed
format. Also, the file BONUS.DOC has been removed.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 2.00
──> Built-In Compression!
Version 2.00 of ZIP'R Pro contains new built-in compression,
compatible with PKZIP 2.0. This makes it possible to use
ZIP'R Pro without needing any outside compression program.
The built-in compression creates files with a .ZIP extension,
and can decompress files created with PKZIP 2.0. (Likewise,
files created with the internal compression can be viewed and
decompressed using PKZIP 2.0.)
──> New User Levels!
The ZIF Editor Pro now contains 3 specific user levels, to
allow beginner, intermediate, or advanced users to customize
the way the ZIF Editor works. Advanced users will have
access to all the settings previously available.
Intermediate users will have a scaled-down version, with
access to some of the more sought-after features. Beginners
will use a bare-bones version, making it as easy to use as
possible.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.27
──> Maintenance Release
Version 1.27 is a maintenance release. A more attractive
color scheme is now being used in the ZIF Editor, and all
drop-down boxes have been replaced with radio buttons to make
the interface easier to use, especially for those who may not
Page 5
have a mouse.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.26
──> Maintenance Release
Version 1.26 is a maintenance release. Several issues were
addressed in ZIPRPRO.EXE, including a problem where the
prelog screen would be displayed, even if a delay of 0 was
specified (for registered users only). Support for the F1
(Help) key in the ZIF Editor Pro was also enhanced.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.25
──> Maintenance Release
Version 1.25 is a maintenance release, fixing a bug in the
ZIF Editor Pro. The Compression Paths screen (available from
the ZIP'R Pro Settings menu) was not being displayed at all
when this option was selected.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.24
──> Cleanup Maintenance Now Executed From ZIF Editor.
The /Cleanup option that was previously executed from the
ZIP'R Pro command line has now been moved into the ZIF Editor
Pro. This option can be found under the ZIP'R Pro Settings
menu, and makes the cleanup process much easier to access and
execute. (The support for /Cleanup from the ZIP'R Pro
command line has been removed, thus reducing the ZIP'R Pro
code size by 11K in its uncompressed format.)
──> Maintenance Release
Version 1.24 is a maintenance release, correcting several
minor, obscure problems. For a complete list of changes, see
the revision files ZIPRPRO.REV and ZIFPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.23
──> New Menu Style in ZIF Editor!
The ZIF Editor Pro has been enhanced with better menus and a
new backdrop.
──> Maintenance Release
Version 1.23 is also a maintenance release, correcting
several minor problems. For a complete list of changes, see
the revision files ZIPRPRO.REV and ZIFPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.22
──> RAM Disk Support!
Version 1.22 now supports the use of a RAM Disk for
extracting and executing a program. To use this feature,
simply specify the RAM drive and directory where the program
Page 6
should be executed from in the executable file field. ZIP'R
Pro will decompress the program to this directory on the RAM
disk (provided there is enough space), and will recompress
the program back to the original directory on the hard drive
when it is finished. Be very careful when using this
feature! If your program would cause the computer to hang
when it is being executed from the RAM disk, you would likely
lose any changes you had made to your data files. Why use a
RAM disk? Speed! One program that I tested this feature
with was 2.5 times faster when decompressing files than when
the RAM disk wasn't used. If you want a little extra speed,
try using a RAM disk.
──> Maintenance Release
Version 1.22 is a maintenance release, correcting several
minor problems. For a complete list of changes, see the
revision files ZIPRPRO.REV and ZIFPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.21

minor problems found in version 1.20. For a complete list of
changes, see the revision files ZIPRPRO.REV and ZIFPRO.REV.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.20
──> Totally New ZIF Editor Pro!
The ZIF Editor Pro has been re-written, reworked, and
revised. The new version uses a completely new interface
with hot-key support for virtually every field. Many new
options and features, including F1 Help support throughout
the program.
──> Tons of New Enhancements!
ZIP'R Pro contains many new features and enhancements, too
numerous to mention here. For a complete list of changes,
see the revision files ZIPRPRO.REV and ZIFPRO.REV.
──> Work-Around For OS/2 Sub-Directory Creation Problem.
Problems have been reported when using PKUNZIP under OS/2 in
a global Novell Netware session. PKUNZIP is not always able
to create sub-directories when decompressing a file.
(Whether this is a problem with OS/2, Novell, or PKWare is
unknown.) To circumvent this problem, ZIP'R Pro contains a
new feature to manually create these directories before
handing off to PKUNZIP.
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.19
──> Launch Programs From An Alternate Directory!
ZIP'R Pro now allows users to specify an alternate directory
from which to execute the specified program. Especially
Page 7
useful for word processors and applications that need to
access data files in different locations!
──> New Option Of Whether Or Not To Load Command Processor!
A new option within the ZIF Editor allows users to specify
whether or not ZIP'R Pro loads a secondary command processor
before executing a program. This feature can free up an
additional 3 - 5K of conventional memory!
What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.18

What's New in ZIP'R Pro For DOS Version 1.16
──> ZIP'R Pro Now Checks For The Compression Program On The DOS
Path
An additional check has been added to attempt to locate the
selected compressor on the DOS PATH. If the compressor
cannot be found in the path specified in the ZIPRPRO.INI
file, or in the ZIP'R Pro sub-directory, it will search the
DOS Path.
──> Problem Fixes Related To Advanced Compression Options
Several problems have been fixed related to compression
options, both in the ZIF Editor Pro, and ZIP'R Pro itself.
For more information, see the files ZIFPRO.REV and
ZIPRPRO.REV, respectively.

──> Major Problem Fix
A problem was fixed where data loss could occur if the
compressed file was stored on a floppy diskette, and
selective extraction or selective exclusion was enabled.
──> More Extensive Error Trapping
ZIP'R Pro has been updated with some new error trapping
screens in the IN Command, Program, and OUT Command
execution routines. If an error occurs, ZIP'R Pro traps the
error and prompts the user whether to continue or not.
──> New /CLEANUP option
ZIP'R Pro now supports the use of a /CLEANUP command to
erase all signal files from the ZIP'R Pro directory. This
option should be used with care to ensure that no other
processes are using ZIP'R Professional. If you are
operating under a network or multitasker environment and
have experienced hangs, you could have some leftover token
(signal) files in your \ZIPRPRO sub-directory. Make sure no
one else is using ZIP'R Pro and type ZIPRPRO /CLEANUP to
erase all leftover signal files.
